Where Are They Now?
Invariably when crossing paths with a former class mate, the question, "What ever happened to ...", is raised. The intent in this section of the site is to provide a brief synopsis that will help answer that question for members of the H.W.S. class of 1979.

(Update to the above paragraph: I have been tracking down phone numbers and calling lots of folks. EVERYBODY I have talked to has been asking me about everyone else. I have talked to so many people, I am forgetting who told me what. Picture this: A former classmate runs into you on the street or at the reunion on the 24th:
"I think that the Kevorkian thing has gotten a little out of hand. I couldn't believe it when Tim told me that you and your wife had your 15 year old child, "Rocky" put to sleep. I know teenagers are a challenge. But how could you do such a thing?!"
"Ah, ... I am single and I never had any children. "Rocky" was my dog."

This is how rumors get started. You can avoid a similar scenario by providing accurate information about yourself by sending in your "Where Are They Now" information.)

My 15 minutes of fame: I would have to say it was winning a trophy and title of Ms. Lake Ontario in a Physique Championship in 1987, I still can't describe the feeling of self gratification it gave me. Although what kind of honor is it to carry a title of one of the filthiest lakes around?

Presently working with Eren (Erdag) Hart developing a Micropositioning Auto Aligner for use in the photonics packaging industry to align optic fibers. (Fiber alignment is necessary for use in digital, optic fiber communications. The most common application is for telephone communication systems.)

Pursuit/Occupation: Materials Manager, Celestica, LaVergne, TN. My team is responsible to get parts ordered, received, warehoused, and moved to the line to assemble pc's for HP. All the while, maintaining 99% inventory accuracy. The challenge is great, but I'd rather be cycling... Speaking of cycling- I will be participating (3rd year) in the MS150 Bike Ride, held in TN Oct. 2&3. The ride is 150 miles and benefits Multiple Sclerosis. Donations are gladly accepted.

Pursuit/Occupation: We live in Greece, NY in a Victorian home my husband and father-in-law built. My mother-in-law and I spent many hours staining, sanding and sealing every piece of wood on the interior.
I have worked at St. Mary's Foundation since 1990 as a Special Events Coordinator. I work part-time, 3 days a week. I plan the fundraising events that help support the programs of Unity Health System, an alliance of St. Mary's and Park Ridge Hospitals. I am currently working on a huge golf tournament in September and the TEN UGLY MEN party scheduled for the same day as our reunion.
When not working, I devote my time to my children. We can usually be found with my sister and her children who are the same age as mine.

Few people know that...:		 Few people know that...: I was struck by a dump truck, hit-and-run. My running joke is; _This_ is what you look like after you get hit by a dump truck. :-) Standing out in a crowd: I was the only Caucasian at my own wedding. We were fortunate enough to be able to pay off our house in 3 years (because my wife is such a hard worker). Doctors predicted that the first child would be a BOY that would MISCARRY. Well, our child was a GIRL, born FULL TERM on Chinese WOMEN'S DAY! She was born on the 8th day of the 3rd month, and her name, Susanna, comes from the 8th chapter of Luke's Gospel, 3rd verse.
15 minutes of fame: Featured as the typical Westerner (white skin, blond hair, blue eyes, big nose) on Hubei (China) Provincial TV news coverage of "Foreigners Singing Chinese Songs Competition" in 1991. I was thanked by the Commandant of Schiphol International Airport (Amsterdam, Holland.) for exposing a security breach there in 1988 (You don't hear about hijackings of flights originating in Amsterdam, do you?).
Strange but true numbers: For my wife and me, our birth dates are mutually "shuffled": she was born on 1-2-68, I on 8-2-61. The last four digits of both of our Social Security numbers and our street address all utilize the same four digits: 0, 2, 4, and 8.

Location: Now I actually live in Webster, as opposed to 1979, when I lived in that sliver of Walworth served by Webster Central Schools.
Pursuit/Occupation: Pursuit: A cozy little lifestyle in the suburbs with a small family, white picket fence and the perfect lawn. (Not very '70s, is it?)
Occupation: I'm a certified systems engineer at RIT, which means I try to keep their computers running in spite of what they do to them. Robyn is a School Psychologist at the Foreman Center. Hey--you all used to tell me I should have my head examined. So I did. Conclusion: it's balding.

Pursuit/Occupation: Family life: My husband spent 14 years in the Navy, with the result that we lived in San Diego; Whidbey Island, Washington (beautiful beyond words); and Meridian, Mississippi (a unique experience). He is now a commercial airline pilot for a freight company called Atlas, flying 747's all over the world. We live in the suburbs of Philadelphia where there is a little too much traffic but lots of things for families to do.
What I do: Wear many hats at consumer electronics company ... advertising design, product design, marketing, computer saviour, in-house legal. For fun ... cook and eat with my family, go on adventures with my "boys" (all three of them), ride and show my horse Zulu (dressage), combat garden on my 1.25 acres of woods and weeds, read trash novels, and occasionally exercise to try to maintain some sort of fitness.

Few people know that...:		 Few people know that: I earned a law degree at the University of Pennsylvania and practiced litigation for three years in California before bagging it to be a Mom. I became a bona fide Jock in college and was on the varsity rowing team at Yale, winning the Eastern States championships and even went on to try out for the national rowing team (unsuccessfully).
Words of Wisdom: Stay in touch with friends ... they may surprise you! The accomplishments of many of our classmates are a big case in point. Do something for yourself every day (this is for the overworked Moms out there!).

Started working part-time this year as secretary at St. Martin Lutheran church. Our family enjoys making music together. Pursuit/Occupation: Freelance illustrator of children's books, magazines,textbooks, brochures, etc. I work in watercolor, painting realistic pictures of children and animals. I work at home in my studio, which allows me to be home for my kids.
Interests: Gardening, home improvement projects on our english country-style 1920's house (something always needs fixing!), landscape design (we have 2.5 acres, half of it woods) , hiking, training my German Shepherd, family vacations up in the Adirondak Mountains, exercise (speed walking and weight lifting).

Although my degree is in photography, lately I've been mostly working as a graphic designer and multimedia producer, and run my own imaging and design business. Few people know that... The competition on the art-show circuit is fierce - you really have to watch your back around those little old ladies in the quilting booth. And the basket weavers - fuhgetta 'bout it!

Pursuit/Occupation: Head of Catalog Dept. at Roch. Public Library (Central-Rundel Bldg.). Have been at Library for 11+ years. Also director of music at Holy Spirit Church (site of the HWS Baccalaureate service, 1979). I've been organist there for 13 years, choir director for 11 years. Pieranna Monaco of our class has sung in the choir for 11 years; our former director was Mary Van Houten. I also sing with a group of adults and children, the Cathedral Choir school. Two choir members are children of Karen (Lafferty) O'Toole. And I sing for ordinations, weddings, and other services. I've been music director for the past two years for the Webster Theatre Guild. Pursuit/Occupation: I work as a freelance illustrator (medical and natural science illustration), and commercial graphics (computer graphic design on a Mac system in my home-office (using Pagemaker for layout work, and Photoshop, Illustrator and Freehand programs). Have been intensely busy with work the past few years, and am trying to find ways to have a more mellow/less frenetic lifestyle.
My spouse is an ER doc with side interests in broadcast videography (he recently filmed a nuclear sub - the Hawkbill- coming up thru the ice at the North Pole, for National Geographic), and Tactical Medicine (he's been training the local police department in weapons & tactics and emergency medical protocols, in the wake of a fatal shootout a couple of years ago).
Also am President, newsletter editor, and spokesperson for the local Pro-Choice group, the Fairbanks Coalition for Choice (for 7 years now).
I enjoy hiking with my dog, backpacking (especially in mountains),mountain biking, cross-country & back-country skiing, snow-shoeing.
Recently I took a relaxing trip (visiting my brother's family) to London and the English countryside for a few weeks, and also spent a week in Israel.

No kids. But have 2 dogs, 2 cats, and a crop of mosquitos.
Location: Living in Gulf Shores, Alabama (a magnet for any hurricane that happens to enter the Gulf of Mexico. What can I say, I like to live dangerously!).
Pursuit/Occupation: I have an interior design business called Biscayne Interiors. We furnish and decorate mostly condominiums and 2nd homes (because most people are not crazy enough to live here full time). We also do boat interiors and an occasional commercial design job. I've found that running your own business takes a considerable amount of time.

Any free time I manage to salvage is usually spent working on landscaping projects or renovation projects (we have a 1908 farmhouse which seems to be a constant source for my experimentation - as Reggie can attest to!). And, every once in a while Reggie will get me to go with him on a boat delivery or fishing tournament (he's a boat captain). Biggest fish I've caught was a 113 lb. yellowfin tuna - major adrenaline rush !
