The fundraiser was a success and we met our goal in
raising $14,500!
We would like to thank everyone who helped us reach this goal:
Webster residents, local merchants and community organizations. We
would also like to thank our family and friends for supporting us.
Lyndsy will lead a safer, more independent and fulfilling life with
the help of the service dog. We should expect to receive the service
dog early next year, hopefully in March or April. Please don't
hesitate to introduce yourself to us when Lyndsy is out in the
community with her new service dog.
Thank you again for your donation and your genuine interest in helping
us achieve this dream for Lyndsy and our family.
For those wishing to support other families who have a similar need,
your tax-deductible donation can be sent to:

A Service Dog For Lyndsy Bayer
Lyndsy was diagnosed with the severely incapacitating,
lifelong disability of autism when she was just five
years old. Despite many years of therapy and special
education, Lyndsy remains in the clutches of this
debilitating disease and due to this illness, Lyndsy
remains unaware of dangerous situations. That’s why
a service dog is needed to help promote her safety
and help her connect better with the real world.
We need your assistance to raise the needed $14,500* for
a service dog for Lyndsy by joining us in a Casino
Fundraiser in Webster, NY on June 1, 2007. Click
the Fundraiser Event tab above for details. Please
help us help Lyndsy. ANYTHING you can do is needed
and appreciated!
Autism
Autism is a lifelong disability that typically appears
during the first three years of life. Autism is characterized
by impaired social interaction, problems with verbal and
nonverbal communication and unusual, repetitive or severely
limited activities and interest. Today, one out of every
150 children is dignosed with autism.
Thanks to all our family, friends and the community for helping
us (Lyndsy's parents) with this fundraising event. We truly
appreciate the support and love you have shown us. A special
"Thank you" to the non-profit, Dazzle School of Visual and
Performing Arts for sponsoring us in this much-needed venture.
Lyndsy
Lyndsy was born in 1991, after a normal pregnancy. At first,
Lyndsy displayed noticeable delays at 6 months old. Lyndsy
received Occupational Therapy and Physical Therapy for 1 year
and had gained enough skills to discontinue therapy. However
at age 3, Lyndsy regressed and was diagnosed with autism at
age 5. Lyndsy received an intense ABA program for 3 years
and then a combined ABA/DIR program. Over the years, Lyndsy
has made slow, steady progress but lags significantly in
the area of communication and socialization. Currently,
she attends a special education program and receives
speech therapy, occupational therapy and small group
instruction. With guidance from a doctor, diet and
supplementation have been a great benefit for Lyndsy. The
restricted diet continues to be beneficial for her.
It is very difficult to take Lyndsy to places outside of
our home because of her tendancy to wander off. On many
occasions, Lyndsy has wandered off in public places, however,
most recently she has left our home unnoticed. Our concern
for Lyndsy's safety prompted us to look into a service dog
for her. The service dog will be trained to alert us should
Lyndsy attempt to leave the house unattended. The service
dog will also prevent Lyndsy from wandering off at home and
in the community.
Irene & Bryan Bayer

dog in support of Lyndsy's safety.
